Visit a unique attraction with Paris Catacombs tickets
The most spine-chilling attraction in Paris is arguably the Catacombs. The macabre destination houses millions of real human remains, some of which are centuries old. Book Paris Catacombs tickets to visit this unique city landmark.
During the late 18th Century, Paris cemeteries started filling up. To avoid a public health concern, the city authorities decided to transfer the buried bodies into underground tunnels. Known as Paris Municipal Ossuary, the network of tunnels underwent a consecration in April 1786, leading to its official name – Catacombs. The human skeletons and remains were moved there between 1785 and 1787.
Explore the remnants of ancient Paris
Today, visitors can venture twenty metres underground by climbing down the one hundred and twenty steps. As soon as you step into the Catacombs chamber, you can feel the atmosphere change. Finding human bones and skulls stacked together in these tunnels can recreate the feel of a horror movie!
Your Paris Catacombs tickets also include an audio guide that helps you learn all about the rich history of these underground caverns. The guide is available in English and Spanish, as well as German and French. During your visit, hear gruesome tales and stories about the tunnels. Enrich yourself about Cataphiles or illegal visitors to the Catacombs, who access the restricted sections of this underground network.
Although the entire Catacombs extend for miles, only a small part of is open to the public. City authorities have deemed the remaining portion unsafe. Moreover, Parisians need to be careful while constructing overhead, as too large structures can lead to cave-ins due to the presence of the Catacombs.
